در ادامه درس قبل، در این قسمت از آموزش زبان انگلیسی زبان علم، قصد داریم ضمن پرداختن به معنی by far the best، در مورد نحوه ساخت اولین زیردریایی پیشرفته صحبت شود.
اگر چه تا پایان(By the end of) قرن نوزدهم، بریتانیا قدرتمندترین نیروی دریایی جهان را داشت، اما فاقد زیردریایی بود. در زمانی که قدرتهای دیگر جهان شروع به ساخت زیردریایی ها کردند، دریابانی (بریتانیا) نیز به شدت تلاش می کرد که به این پیشرفت دست پیدا کند. پیشرفته ترین(most technologically advanced) زیردریایی ها رو مورد بررسی قرار دادند، و بهترین نوع آن را که توسط فیلیپ هولاند ساخته شده بود را انتخاب کردند. آن را خریداری کردند و نسخه انحصاری خود را از روی آن ساختند.
By the end of the th19 century, Britain had the biggest and most powerful navy in the world. But they had no submarines. One British admiral described them as “underhand” and a “damned un-english weapon!”
But as other world powers started to build subs, the admiralty desperately tried to catch up. They searched for the most technologically advanced design and decided the vessels built by an Irishman named john philip holland were by far the best.
John philip holland was a sort of natural born engineer, self-taught. He emigrated to america in 1873 . It is said that he emigrated with just one suitcase, and even the suitcase had plan for early submarine Designs in it. In 1900 the royal navy purchased holland’s designs and built their own version. This is the first submarine commissioned by the royal navy, HMS Holland 1.
